Initial Installation

Once you made sure that everything given above is alright, follow these instructions to install OfficeClip:

A. Download and Configure to a local machine

  1. Download OfficeClip manual installation compressed file (called manualInstall.zip) and uncomress it to a temporary directory on the local machine.

  5. Run octools.exe and change the following parameters:
    1. Select Option 6 (Set Sql Server...), enter the database parameters for the database that you created in a previous step. Then click on the Apply button.
    2. Select Option 3 (Change Application Settings), then do the following:
      1. Select HOSTStr from Key and change the domain. For example if your site is http://myhost/officeclip/default.aspx, change it to myhost. Then click on the Apply button.
      2. Select VDIRPath and change it to the location of virtual directory (in this case /officeclip/). Note the slash before and after. Then click on the Apply button.
      3. Select AdminEmailAddress and change it to your email address. Then click on the Apply button.
      4. Select supportEmailAddress and change it to your email address. Then click on the Apply button.

  6. Run OfficeClip.Install.OcConfigure.exe, Set the smtp parameters and timeout parameters.
  7. Run OCmd.exe -c 1. This will create all database entries and may take some time. Check the log files (in the log folder) in case of any error.

B. Setting up a virtual directory on local machine

Note: Skip this step if you plan to install OfficeClip at a service provider account.

  1. Create a virtual directory (application) called officeclip in IIS. Point it to the officeclip folder (where you unzipped the file).
  2. Change security mode to Anonymous and Integrated Windows Authentication.
  3. Under ASP.Net tab, change the .Net framework to version 2.
  4. Run octools.exe and select Option 3 (Change Application Settings). Select UploadFolderPath and set the path to RootFolder\upload\. Where RootFolder is the full path of the folder where officeclip is installed. Note: The path should end with a backslash.

C. Setting up a virtual directory on remote machine

Note: Skip this step if you plan to install OfficeClip on a local machine.

  1. Make sure that the Sql Server instance is accessible via internet.
  2. Make sure that your Service provider supports Asp.Net 2.0.
  3. Run OcTools.exe and select Option 3 (Change Application Settings). Select UploadFolderPath and set the path to RootFolder\upload\. Where RootFolder is the full path (e.g. c:\Domains\path) of the folder where OfficeClip is supposed to be installed. This can be obtained from your control panel or ask your service provider. Note: The path should end with a backslash.
  4. ftp all the files from your unzip folder to your service provider location.
  5. Create a virtual directory (application) in IIS using the Control Panel. Point it to the OfficeClip folder.
  6. Set up other information as you did for local install.

Testing the OfficeClip Installation

To test OfficeClip installation run http://yoursite/officeclip/systemtest.aspx. If everything shows as passed you are done!

Troubleshooting

Check all the files under the log folder on your local machine (where you unzipped it). These files will give some clue on what is wrong.

Upgrades

  1. Download the OfficeClip Manual Installation Zip file and unzip to the same folder where you unzipped before.
  2. run OCmd -c 1
  3. ftp new files to your service provider (if needed)
  4. Test OfficeClip and make sure that the version number is changed.

What to do if the website hangs

If you have installed OfficeClip at the service provider, the service provider may not provide you adequate privilege to run iisreset on their server. The application domain can also be reset by ftping the root level web.config back to the website (thereby overwriting it)
